“a poem or a prayer” (Poetry Project, Day 3)

I spent the morning planting flowers and pulling weeds in my friend’s fairy-garden, while her chickens gossiped and scratched turned earth for grubs. When the sun nudged us onto the porch, we drank tea while a bowl of incense smoldered nearby. Butterflies drifted in and out of sun shafts, and the crawl of the garden snails was an OM we could almost hear.

Today’s poem is “May” by Mary Oliver, Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winner. Thanks, J Kabay, for the fancy camera work, and for a beautiful morning.
