Me, Distilled
Hi, I’m Emily. I’m a writer pursuing my MFA in Creative Writing. This blog is where I break all the blogging rules, such as Blog every day and Focus on a single subject, such as fashion or farming or photography. I’m not an anarchist, but I don’t like being told what to do. Here you will find playlets and assorted essays on topics as varied as: the quest for selfhood, talking chickens, writing and being a writer, Blue Plate Mayonnaise (the best mayonnaise in the world, and no, I’m not being paid to say that ), and all the reasons I wish I were French. In short, it is a blog about my life. There’s a lot of mayonnaise in my life.
Me, in a nut-shell (and where else would a nut be?): In the morning I drink coffee, at night I drink wine, though I’ve been known to reverse the order. If I could play any instrument like any person, I’d play the clarinet like Pete Fountain, the trumpet like Chet Baker, or the piano like Bill Evans. I once married the city of New Orleans in a small and solemn ceremony on the banks of the Mississippi. I never divorced the city, and later I married a person. So I suppose that makes me a bigamist. My favorite punctuation marks are: parentheses (and colons).
Here I am. Drinking champagne in my bathrobe and all ready to toot a little paper whistle atcha.

Dream Job(s): 1.) Paid, professional novelist. 2.) Paid, professional artist. 3.) Queen of my own private island. 4.) Professional muse.
You can put a delightful, and expanding asterisk next to ‘Professional Muse.’ In my humble opinion, you already are an astute Internet Muse. And as far as I am concerned these days, that has to be one of the more important jobs on the planet, as we race across the planetary digital expressways bringing enlightenment to folks that need some assistance in thinking again about their locations of their churches…
Oh, that’s very nice of you to say, Chris.
superb. and best of all, jaunty as hell. you grow and grow.
and it’s right that as you grow you should love life more and more. your voice is like a trumpet blast.
EMILY! I just spent over an hour reading your posts (red wine in hand, ironically) and I’m in love! Funny, touching, honest, eloquent. I will be visiting this page often. Thank you!
